This was taken in June of 2007 (STS-117). I was visiting Florida with my mom before I even got my D80. I had my little HP r967 point and shoot on me, and it served well. This shot was taken from a tripod while trying to film the launch with a video camera at the same time. I still love it because I think the chances of a bird flying perfectly underneath the launch right at this time are just unfathomable

These two photographs were made by combining data from NASA's Galaxy Evolution Explorer spacecraft and the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile. By combining the data, astronomers were able to learn that not all galaxies make stars of different sizes in the same quantities, as was previously assumed. In other words, the proportion of small to big stars can differ from galaxy to galaxy.
The Cassini spacecraft looks toward the varied surface of the trailing hemisphere of Saturn's moon Enceladus.
The image was taken in visible light with the Cassini spacecraft narrow-angle camera on June 25, 2009. The view was acquired at a distance of approximately 594,000 kilometers (369,000 miles) from Enceladus and at a Sun-Enceladus-spacecraft, or phase, angle of 66 degrees.

Delta II launch from Vandenberg AFB, 5 May 09 @ 1324 PST
The launch was a successful start for a NASA telescope called Kepler that will look for planets in the Milky Way that might sustain life.

The space shuttle Discovery lifted off Sunday evening

I took this shot at the Kennedy Space Center Observation Gantry the day before the Discovery's scheduled launch, only to find out the next day there was a fuel leak and that the shuttle would not be taking off for the next couple of days at the least. A disappointment, yes, but it's a good thing they found this before it was too late!
This is an actual moon rover, at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC.
This is actually a fairly old photo (January 2006) taken on my first visit to the Smithsonian National Museum of Air and Space. My recent visit to Kennedy Space Center inspired me to revisit these photos. It's really a shame that this exhibit, showing Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin (I believe?) stepping out of the Lunar Module, is right next to the McDonald's food court. I used my artistic license to try to soften the background. This is a real module, but it was only used for training and did not actually go to the moon. The landing part of the module is still on the moon!
